How public vehicle auctions work - what you should know

how do auto auctions work? You’ve heard about them from friends or family or perhaps seen ads or flyers publicizing these types of automobile auctions. If you’re curious about attending northern california auctions then the following information will prove useful.

Local Car Auction Expectations

Public northern California auctions are a great place to buy a used car. Auctions here at Sacramento Public Auction, begin promptly at 10:00am on the third Saturday of every month. Prior to the auction you can get an idea of what to expect with our catalog, available two days before (Thursday). The following day (Friday) you can see the cars on the lot at the auction site between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.

The Process

  • We average approximately 220 to 300 cars during our automobile auctions.
  • Each car typically sells within 45 seconds to one minute from the time its' number is called
  • The auctioneer will start the bidding by taking requests from the audience
  • The bidding will continue until the auctioneer declares the vehicles "SOLD"

before attending local car auctions, do your homework!

Here's the key phrase to remember: know before you go. Just like walking into a dealership or used car lot before going to local car auctions, you need to know how what car you want and how much you aim to spend. Then add to that:

  • 10% buyer's premium
  • $55 documentation fee
  • $50 smog fee
  • All of these items are subject to sales tax. The sales tax rate is based on the city/county where the vehicle will be registered.
  • DMV fees are also added and are posted for each vehicle in the Auction catalog. DMV fees are estimated.

Before automobile auctions figure out your financing

Upon approval of credit, Sacramento Public Auction can help you with financing arrangements. Call our credit hotline at (916)640-8018.

Know how much your vehicle is worth

Curious about the vehicle's worth? SPAuction has Blue Books for sale on auction day. Remember, banks and financiers will only cover loans for the value of the car.

Some of our cars are so new that many are still under factory warranty. We appreciate and understand your need for getting the best buy for your money and welcome your comments on the car you purchased during our auction. Customer service is very important to us. Please feel free to email us with more specific questions or contact us at info@spauction.com.
